How to Make Beeswax Candles

If you are not getting what you want out of the candles you are making, it may be time to try something new. One type of candle that is wonderful is a beeswax candle. They have an unbelievably sweet scent and produce a warm, soft glow that is beautiful and comforting. If you love candles, then beeswax candles are a must for your home. They are easy to make and you can even share the experience with your children. You can turn making beeswax candles into a fun and wholesome activity for the entire family. There are just a few supplies that you will need. Some of them you may already have at home and the rest you can get at most craft supply stores.

Two ingredients that you will need to purchase from a craft supply store are beeswax sheets and primed wick. If you are not familiar with candle making then ask someone who works at the supply store to point you in the right direction. Two more supplies you need are a sharp knife and a cutting board. You may already have these items in your home. If you do not want to use the knife and cutting board you use for cooking to make candles, then these items can easily be purchased at a discount or department store. Finally you will need a clean workspace that is large enough to comfortably accommodate your supplies and your candles in progress.

Here are the steps to make a beeswax candle:

  • You should roll the beeswax sheet out onto your work surface.

  • Next you need to cut a length of your wick. It should be two inches longer than the width of the beeswax sheet.

  • The wick should be placed along the edge of the beeswax sheet. You then fold the sheet to cover the wick by about 1/8 of an inch. To make sure that the wax is completely surrounding the wick, press down firmly on the beeswax sheet.

  • When the wick is secure in the beeswax sheet it is time to start rolling the wax. Keep the candle straight and roll it slowly. Rolling slowly will ensure that you do not damage the honeycomb pattern in the wax.

  • When you get to the end of the beeswax sheet you will need to press down gently on the exposed edge so that your candle does not come apart.

  • Select the end of the candle that you feel makes the best top. Trim the wick down to about a ½ and inch on this end. You will then need to remove the exposed wick completely from the end that will be the bottom.

This is an easy way to make beautiful beeswax candles. One candle can provide you with hours of light and warmth. If you let your children help you, they will take great pride in what they have made. These candles also make exquisite gifts. People really love personal, homemade gifts. Beeswax candles can add elegance, comfort and beauty to any room they grace. They are great for home or your work space.
